The Trim

The Process

1. Removal

Most of the trim needed to be carefully removed and sorted. Many hours were spent removing and marking the trim, carefully making sure we did not lose track of where a piece goes. During this process, some of the pieces of trim would crack or even split in half.

2. Repair & Sand

We then had to take all of the trim that had been damaged during removal and glue it back together. We also took each piece and sanded as much of the imperfections out of them as we could. Sanding allows the trim to have a smooth finish and also helps the stain or paint to sink deeper into the wood. Each individual piece needed to be sanded, some of them sanded multiple times with different grits.

3. Stain and/or Paint

We then took each piece of trim and applied stain to it. The dark walnut color is a custom mix designed to match the original color of the trim.

4. Installation

The trim was then installed back into the spots it originally came from. Free of dirt, splinters, and scratches.
